New Director of Surgical Services Hired at BMHMay 7, 2004 - (BUTLER, PA) – Karen Allen, RN, was recently hired as the new director of surgical services at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Allen comes to BMH from UPMC Shadyside where she was the director of a 21-room operating room. She also previously worked at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN as the clinical coordinator of cardio-thoracic surgery.
“We are thrilled to have Karen join our staff,” says Ken DeFurio, Senior Vice President of Operations at BMH. “She brings with her a wealth of experience that we can use to continue to improve our clinical capability and expand services to the community.”
Allen has an associate degree in nursing from the Community College of Allegheny County and a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh. She has also obtained master’s degree credits in the health care supervision and management program at the University of Pittsburgh.
“I am excited to join the Butler Memorial Hospital Team. My first month here has been exciting and I look forward to working with this highly energetic, cohesive team of professionals,” says Allen. “Surgical Services goal is to offer our community excellent, state of the art patient care.”
The BMH OR runs 24 hours a day. There are almost 15,000 surgeries performed at BMH each year. In addition, BMH has recently opened a new state-of-the-art Women’s Surgery Center. The surgical services department continues to expand and offer a vast array of services to the surrounding community.
