BMH Auxiliary Buys Portable X-ray Machine

March 19, 2004 - (BUTLER, PA) – The BMH Auxiliary recently purchased a new portable x-ray machine for Butler Memorial Hospital. The Auxiliary donated $40,000 to purchase this technology, which is used throughout the hospital to perform bedside x-rays on patients.

The money was raised by the Auxiliary in various hospital fundraising events and through the proceeds from the Cherry Tree Gift Shoppe and The Hostess Shop housed on the hospital’s Ground Floor.

“The Auxiliary’s mission is to support the hospital in it’s effort to provide unsurpassed care to our community,” says Bette King, BMH Auxiliary president. “We want to be able to give to the hospital, not only our volunteer hours but our financial proceeds.”

The BMH Auxiliary includes 320 women and men who come from communities throughout Butler County. A separate program for those in high school, the Candystripers, has 32 members. Auxilians and Candystripers can be found helping throughout the hospital, including at the front information desk, the Cherry Tree Gift Shop, the Hostess Shoppe, radiology, PriorityCare, the print shop, public relations, medical records, in the Transitional Care Facility, the emergency department, the outpatient surgery family waiting area, and the intensive care waiting room.

Auxilians also knit caps for newborns, assist with filing and mailing, contact clergy at a patient’s request, operate the hostess cart, register and photograph new babies and help with community projects such as health fairs and screenings.

Those interested in joining the Auxiliary or Candystripers can contact Kim Reamer, Director of Volunteer Services at (724) 284-4342.
