In addition, those that sign-up will be mailed information on another program that BMH works closely with – the Family Health Council HealthyWoman Program. This program was designed and is funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to support women who need care such as mammography, clinical breast exams and pap testing should you need it. It even covers additional testing that may be required.
A mammogram is a safe, low dose x-ray picture of the breast. A screening mammogram is a convenient way to detect breast cancer early, when treatment is more effective and the chance of survival is high. Two views are taken of each breast and interpreted by a radiologist — a physician trained to read x-ray pictures. Mammography screenings are recommended every year for women age 40 and over.
